An interview and discussion with Dr Bernardo Kastrup at the Centre for Myth, Cosmology and the Sacred
We are delighted to welcome the scientist and philosopher Dr Bernardo Kastrup to discuss the power of mythic and symbolic understanding for our age. We will talk with Bernardo about his book ‘More than Allegory’ and the relationship of intellect, emotion and belief in religious and mythic narratives and their importance today, followed by a discussion and Q&A with participants. As Jeffrey Kripal has pointed out in his Introduction, this book is essentially “an exploration of how cosmic consciousness projects itself into narrative forms, into story, or what we have come to call ‘myth’, and then wakes up out of that same story or myth to know itself not as other but as Self.” So how do we achieve this reflexive awareness? Join us as we talk about new myths for modern times, the meaning of literal and symbolic truth, and the role of belief in our materialist society.
For those who cannot attend live, there will be a recording available after the session has taken place. Simply book a ticket via the button below, and the recording link will be sent with the joining instructions.

BIOGRAPHY
Dr Bernardo Kastrup
is the executive director of Essentia Foundation, https://www.essentiafoundation.org/. His work has been leading the modern renaissance of metaphysical idealism, the notion that reality is essentially mental. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy (ontology, philosophy of mind) and another Ph.D. in computer engineering (reconfigurable computing, artificial intelligence). As a scientist, Bernardo has worked for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the Philips Research Laboratories (where the ‘Casimir Effect’ of Quantum Field Theory was discovered). Formulated in detail in many academic papers and books, his ideas have been featured on ‘Scientific American,’ the ‘Institute of Art and Ideas,’ the ‘Blog of the American Philosophical Association’ and ‘Big Think,’ among others. For Bernardo, metaphysical Idealism is a philosophy which not only makes sense of the world but also provides a practical orientation for conscious living. He is the author of many books: Meaning in Absurdity, Dreamed up Reality, Rationalist Spirituality, Brief Peeks Beyond, Materialism is Baloney, More than Allegory, The Idea of the World, and more recently, Decoding Schopenhauer’s Metaphysics, Decoding Jung’s Metaphysics, and Science Ideated. Idealism argues the case for a universal mind, or ‘mind at large’ which is the primary ground and origin of all matter, and in this Bernardo follows in the footsteps of the Platonic and Hermetic philosophies, critiquing the contemporary dominance of a materialist worldview with great clarity, vitality and rational argument.
